“The Fehmarn Project” on LinkedIn wrote the following yesterday, Wednesday 20 May:“Sund & Bælt and Femern Link Contractors (FLC) have entered into an agreement with SCANGRID to join a virtual power plant (VPP). The agreement supports the green transition and helps Energinet stabilise the electricity grid, where the need is great.
At the tunnel construction site in Rødbyhavn, a control system has been installed that connects FLC's more than 1,300 homes with Scangrid's flexible, cloud-based VPP solution. This enables Energinet to balance the load on the electricity grid in real-time.
In the first phase, the solution functions by Scangrid briefly switching off groups of heat pumps as needed and automatically supplying the homes. The interruptions are very short, typically up to three minutes, and have no practical impact on residents. In return, Energinet can utilise the electricity grid far more efficiently and direct the electricity where it is most needed, without further burdening other parts of the grid.
The VPP solution contributes to a more stable, secure, and greener electricity system.”
