New large park on its way in Nordhavn

Copenhagen's next big park project has now taken shape. Team SLA has been selected as the winner of the architectural competition with the proposal North East, which will be a green and coastal park of approximately 30 hectares - one of the largest green areas in the capital.

The park will combine nature and urban life with lagoons, beaches, forest edges and marine reefs alongside football pitches, sports facilities and outdoor activities. The focus is on creating a balance between tranquillity, biodiversity and active urban spaces. At the same time, the industrial history of Nordhavn and the hilly terrain will be built upon.

The winning proposal is praised for its vision of providing space for both people and nature and for thinking of the park on nature's terms. The politicians see the park as a future meeting point and sanctuary for all Copenhageners.

The first stage - the basic park - has already been financed with DKK 95 million, while an extended add-on park may be added later through foundations and municipal funds. Construction is expected to start in 2028.
